Poetry ~ Life in B minor

If I could live
in a musical -
I'd bellow
happiness
in B minor

sit on the roof
with family
and sing of
traditions -
Traditions!

croon love songs
from mountain tops

sing of lemon drops
beyond the rainbow

gather the band
and march with
seventy-six trombones!

when life hands you
a pandemic,
an insurrection,
and locks you down -

break out the songs,
adjust your crown,
and dance!

Poetry ~ Coming Apart

The world of my youth
is coming apart.
I am living in a
science fiction novel
where earthlings
thrash about in cyber space,
divided by ancient beliefs.
I am witness to
virtual tweeting tribes
take up arms and battle
to defend their reality.
However,
if reality is relative
how do we unite around
differing views
and
fake news?
I fear
humanity has been hacked,
the malware activated.
There is no turning back
to the world of my youth
it has come apart.

Poetry ~ Wintering

Our home in the Okanogan Highlands
i am wintering
in a cedar-shingled chalet
in the northern highlands

mindful of a waning eventide
as a ribbon of light waxes
on the distant horizon

tethered to the land
by drifts of snow
and icy roads

i am wintering
in the still and silent beauty
of winter
