Poetry ~ The Edge of Town

there is a darkness on the edge of town
it's shifting, cracking, severing the ground
creating a hollow, shallow grave
where the hearts of men are found

but you must not let the darkness in
for the darkness feeds on 'us and them'
and devours wholly, the hearts of men
seeding the weeds of hatred within

a simple mask was all they asked
to keep the darkness at bay
but the heartless men proclaimed that
their freedom was too high a price to pay

and so the darkness cloaked the town
where many since have died
'your neighbor's death for your freedom'
the mourning town folk cried!

Poetry ~ Let the Poets Sing

oh, sing to us dear poets,
                            melody and verse
there is madness in the streets,
                            'tis humanity's curse
hold your notes on high,
                             let the music consume
so powerful your lyrics,
                             let order resume
send your songs on the wind,
                             'tis humanity's score
may the choir sing your hymns
                             pray harmony is restored

Poetry ~ The Poet’s Mirror

a poet’s words,
descriptive, humbling,
sometimes harsh

like a mirror
they reflect the poet's
inner world

yet,
the notion of reflection,
often rejected by the poet

look closely, poet,
do you not see your
reflection staring back at you

scowl not, critic,
for you too are reflected
in your judgment
